In the summertime when it is hot and you sweat, it is easier to see why hydration is so important. Nothing quenches your thirst better than an ice cold beverage. But in the wintertime when it is cold out, many times the last thing people want to drink is cold water. One thing to remember, though, is that you don’t have to drink cold water to get the benefits of hydration.
The general rule of thumb is to drink half your body weight in ounces, adjusting as needed for your activity levels. There are many reasons why staying hydrated are important but today we will focus on how to stay hydrated at a time of year when it may be more challenging.
- Drink warm beverages. Warm water with lemon in it or some hot tea are great ways of staying warm and getting your water intake. Be aware that caffeine may dehydrate you so decaffeinated tea is a great option.
- Certain foods, especially fruits and vegetables, have a high water content. Eating your water is a great way to stay hydrated.
- Limit your alcohol, sugar, and caffeine intake. These can dehydrate you which can make it even more challenging to stay hydrated.
